I'm a big brother!

Dear Liam,
Last week, you finally put two and two together, and figured out that I'm going to have a baby. I was getting dressed for work one morning, and you were sitting on my bed. I said that none of my clothes were fitting, and you asked me, "Do you need to wear one of Daddy's shirts?" You're too funny. I said "no, Mommy's shirts are fine. It's Mommy's pants that don't fit." You said, "Is it because there's a baby in your belly?" I said, "yes!" And oh my goodness, are you ever excited. You got a new book called "I'm A Big Brother," which we've been reading before bed each night. At Target the other day, practically every item you saw in the baby/kid section, you said you wanted to buy for the new baby. You also yelled out, "I'm going to be a big brother!" to a random customer there. I had told you the baby would be coming in the winter, close to Christmas time, so you keep saying "I want to give this to the new baby for Christmas, when the baby comes at Christmas time." Every time you play with one of your toys at home, you say that you'll give it to the new baby. You're such a sweet boy, Liam.

When I asked you if you wanted a brother or a sister, your answer was, "both!" to which I responded that we'd only have one or the other. Your response then was, "I want a brother, and I will play baseball with him, and we will also have a puppy and a kitty and I will show him how to touch them very gently." Um... I had to inform you that that was NOT going to be happening! No way are we getting a baby AND a pet at the same time. I know you love puppies, Liam... but not now. It's just not the right time. I asked you if it would be okay if the baby's a girl, and you said, "Yes, I will still play baseball with her." I told you that was a very good idea. :)

So far, you seem happy about everything. Lots of changes are coming, and I know there will be some hard times ahead, but you're becoming such a big boy and I think you're going to be okay. Always know that you'll always be my baby too, and that I will always love you no matter what.

Love you, sweet boy,
Mommy
